Coffee Ice Cubes: How to Make Them

Time to prepare: 5 minutes Time to Freeze: 4 hours Yield: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ounce coffee, coarsely ground
  • To taste, sweetener (If desired)

Instructions

  • Coffee may be brewed hot or cold.
  • Fill an ice cube tray halfway with coffee. Put the tray in the freezer. Allow 4 hours for the ice to solidify.

You have two options for brewing the coffee for these cubes.

  • Brew hot coffee: The simplest approach is to brew hot coffee as normal (in your drip coffee machine or in a French Press, if desired). If you need the cubes right immediately, keep in mind that it will take at least 6 hours to freeze from hot.
  • Cold brew coffee takes longer to prepare but produces a less acidic beverage with a sweeter and smoother taste than hot brewed coffee. 1 quart of water and 1 ounce coarsely ground coffee (approximately 1/4 cup whole coffee beans or 1/2 cup ground coffee) are required. In a jar, combine the grinds and water. Refrigerate for 18-22 hours before serving. For a mess strainer, strain the liquid through a fine paper filter.

Fill your ice cube dish halfway with coffee and place it in the freezer. Then it’s simply a matter of waiting! Make them ahead of time if you don’t want to be impatient. Ice cubes usually take four hours to fully freeze (more if you start with hot coffee).
